Core 2 Duo Successors

The Intel has introduced three variants in Core i7 series of processors. These processors are assumed to be the replacement for the Core 2 Duo series of processors in the near future. These processors are based on Intels Nehalem Microarchitecture. The Core i7 processors were code-named as Bloomfiels and Bloomfield Extreme Edition. These processors only support DDR3 memory and the Front-Side Bus is replaced with the Intel QuickPath Interconnect.

Cache Memory

  • 32 KB L1 for Instruction per Core.
  • 32 KB L1 for Data per Core.
  • 256 KB L2 Cache Memory for each Core (Data & Instruction).
  • 8 MB L3 Cache Memory shared by all Core.

Its is based on 45 nm technology and 731 million transistors.
