Steps To Green Computing
It is no secret that energy is becoming more expensive and that we should all be doing our bit for the environment as well as trying to save money. We have compiled a few tips to help you save energy and money by using Green IT!
1) Ensure you are using an LCD monitor. Traditional CRT monitors use a lot more energy than their newer replacements. Also, when you leave your computer, remember to turn the monitor off.
2) Turn the brightness of your monitor down. Most monitors come configured to use the full brightness, which can not only use more energy but also damage your eyes.
3) Schedule your computer to hibernate or go to sleep after so many minutes of not being used. This puts your computer into a low energy mode without shutting it down.
4) Ensure that your computer is using energy efficient componenets. For example, just by switching your graphics card to a newer model, you cut could the amount of energy used by your graphics card by 10%
5) Do not use screensavers! Set your monitor to turn off after a few minutes of not being used.
6) If you are not using bluetooth or wireless then ensure that these are all turned off as they use extra power.
7) Use laptops when possible instead of desktops as they are far more energy efficient.
8) Use the power management schemes in order to shut your computer down when not being used and also to cut down the amount of power your computer uses.
